The first graders had a lot of fun this week learning about lines. They used the new lines they learned about to create a background for the Eric Carle inspired cricket illustrations they will be making next week. In the story "The Very Quiet Cricket," the cricket could not make music with his wings. To make sure our crickets will have beautiful music to chirp, we listened to music while we worked and used the music to inspire our lines. If you'd like to hear this music, click here! The first graders kicked off their new project this week by learning about illustrators and what they do. We specifically talked about Eric Carle, and listened to his story "The Very Quiet Cricket." We will be using this story as inspiration for our new art project.
The first grade classes that were behind due to days off got right to work this week and caught up to the other classes! This is great because they were able to do some of the final steps in our Claude Monet water lily project. The finished water lillies look like they're actually floating on water! Great job first graders!
Unfortunately most of Ms. K's 1st grade art classes are on Fridays. There was no school today and we had an emergency closure last Friday. The good news is eventually I will see the 1st graders again! For the classes I did see this week, we had a chance to use clay to create the flower that we will attach to our organic shape water lilies from Monet's garden.
