The kindergarteners have been putting their new knowledge about portraits to use in the art room through their winter self-portraits. These portraits are special, using the book "Snowflakes Fall," as inspiration, the self-portraits feature the kindergarteners with their mouths open wide catching snowflakes on their tongues! Better catch them quick! Winter won't be around much longer! |

Kindergarteners are very close to being done with adding the primary and secondary colored squares to their quilts. I thought it might be nice to take a break and add some shapes to our quilts. The kindergarteners noticed how quilts typically have patterned fabric on them, so we used patterned paper to draw and cut out shapes. We then added this "beautiful" paper to our quilts to make them more interesting! If you see any kindergarteners with their heads down, don't worry, we aren't napping in art! Sometimes transitions are hard, so putting our heads down when we're done with a step helps let Ms. K know who is still working and who is done, along with keeping us on task. The kindergarteners worked really hard this week as they added more squares to their quilts, and then decorated them with line designs! We've also been practicing how to use art materials like liquid glue bottles. Those can be tricky!
The items in the mystery bag revealed our new project this week. The clues were that the item had shapes, colors and keeps us warm. Can you guess? Quilts! Kindergarteners will spend the next couple of weeks reviewing primary/secondary colors and shapes by creating a paper quilt.
This week in art kindergarteners got to see how the lines we learned about in our last project connect to make shapes. We practiced drawing these shapes so that next week when we officially start our new project we will be pros at drawing shapes!
well, not real pumpkins at least...this week the kindergarteners finished their pumpkin patch paintings, and they are amazing! I am so impressed by the skill level of my kindergarten artists. After finishing the paintings, kindergarteners were given a special "seed" (Model Magic clay) and told to form the shape of a pumpkin. Once our pumpkins are painted, Ms. K has a Windsor pumpkin patch all set up so the pumpkins have a home. In the mean time if you're visiting Windsor be sure to visit the commons to see the pumpkin patch paintings.
The kindergarten pumpkin paintings are looking so beautiful with all their mixed colors! The paintings are just about finished. Now that we know which primary colors to mix to get certain colors, we will spend the week finishing painting.
