For our previous project, we used music to inspire our art. Now, we are using art to inspire our music. The fourth graders learned about Rainsticks, what they are used for and how they are made. Each student constructed one using paper towel rolls and plaster wrap. Once the Rainsticks are made, fourth graders will add mandala designs to add visual appeal.

Paris, France Artists get inspiration from experiences they have every day. Kandinsky was an abstract artist who used the sounds he heard to guide his art decisions. Like Kandinsky, the 4th graders have been painting along to music in art, choosing colors they feel best represent the sounds they're hearing at that moment. Once they finish the painting, adding abstract shapes will help create a visually interesting work of art. Here is one artist's way of explaining "abstraction."
In 4th grade, students have been learning about Native American art to connect their learning from their classrooms. Focusing on totem poles., students discussed the purpose of them before planning their very own. The totem poles are being constructed out of clay, so they're also learning how to add details and texture with clay tools.
The fourth graders have been working on adding some warm fall colors to their contour line trees. After learning about tints, tones, and shades fourth graders painted their trees to look autumnal stretching up towards the low October sun.
In 4th grade we've been learning about contour lines and drawing trees using a contour line. After practicing inside on the Smartboard and in our sketchbooks, we went outside and drew contour line trees from real-life. We then picked our most successful contour line tree and drew it large on nice paper to be painted.
Self-portraits are a great way to track art progress, and how much you've changed. The 4th graders have been working very hard to create realistic self-portraits. Coloring mixing and observations are key! Before starting the pencil and paper portraits, they practiced on the computer first.
