Since next week marks the beginning of Character Counts week, and today is Thursday, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share a "throwback thursday" from Dryden Elementary School, circa 2000. Maybe you will spot Ms. K in this video about Character Counts... I also want to congratulate Mrs. Kerjes'/Mrs. McCune's 2nd/1st grade art class for being the first class at Windsor to earn enough points in art to get a special reward! Way to go Wildcats!
To alleviate some of the blog post clutter, I have decided to make separate pages featuring blogs specific to each grade level. Please check these to see what's happening in the art room per grade level.
Thanks for visiting! This week I was SO proud of all my Wildcat artists! They did such an amazing job staying on task and trying their very best on their art projects. Here's a snapshot of what we did this week: Kindergarten1st GradeOur beautiful water paintings would look too empty without a water lily like the ones we saw in Claude Monet's garden. After learning about shapes without names (organic shapes!), we drew our water lily and added green tissue paper to brighten it up. Our final touch will be to add a blooming lily flower on the top. 2nd GradePaul Klee is a famous artist who painted many pictures of fish, so in second grade we used Paul Klee's paintings as inspiration to begin drawing our fish. After drawing the basic shapes of a fish, we took a look at some real fish and changed our fish drawings to make them more unique. 3rd GradeOur houses are starting to look realllllyyyy spooky! Starting first with simple shapes and lines, we then went back and added details to our architecture. The students are coming up with so many unique and interesting ideas for their houses, check them out below! 4th GradeThe 4th graders were amazed this week when we put together our tints, tones and shades on our fall trees. The colors really pop! Looks like our contour line trees will be changing colors with the trees outside! Drawing self-portraits is very challenging, but the 5th graders handled it no problem this week. Our "selfie" portraits are finally taking shape, and look just like us! Using mirrors, we will continue to observe our reflections and add detail to our portraits.
Time in the art room this week was spent diving into our projects. While the Kindergartners were finishing up their pumpkin line drawings, and the second graders finishing their warm/cool color paintings, the fourth graders were starting their contour line tree drawings, and the fifth graders were starting their selfie portraits.. 1st Grade
3rd GradeThis week third graders transitioned from creating monochromatic backgrounds to starting their "spooky architecture." They learned how architects use shapes and lines to create architecture, and began constructing their own using shapes and lines. Next week they will get the chance to customize their houses to make them truly spooktacular!
Did you ever notice lines are all around us!? Kindergartners spent the week learning about lines through reading the book "Lines that Wiggle." In the story, the lines were having so much fun that we decided to make the different lines we saw with our bodies! I think our favorite was the wiggley lines. Next week kindergarteners will get a chance to feel pumpkins in the art room to help them learn more about curvy lines so they can use them to draw their very own pumpkin patch. 1st
2ndIf you were colors, would you be warm or cool colors? Second graders were asked to ponder this question to determine which colors they would be using in their project. We listened to music to help get our creative juices flowing while we painted using watercolors. 3rdHalloween is just a couple weeks away! What better way to prepare than by making spooky houses! Before making our spooky houses, 3rd graders learned about monochromatic colors to help us create our backgrounds. 4th and 5th
This week was busy busy busy in the art room. Meeting the new teacher, learning the new rules/procedures, and finding time to start making art was hard! But we did it. Here's what we talked and learned about the first week: Kindergarten-2nd Grade: there are all different kinds of art! We watched a fun video all about art, and then made our very own! 3rd-5th grade: what is art really? Is art what you see in a museum, what you make in art class, or the shirt you wore to school? We reflected on this, doing a sorting activity on the Smartboard, and then created pictures of what we think art is. Remember, there is no right or wrong answer!
Hello Windsor Wildcats! It's hard to believe another summer has come and gone! It's always sad to see summer go, but oh so exciting to start a fresh new school year! You may have noticed that the school year is not the only thing that is new, but the Windsor art teacher as well. I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself... My full name is Ms. Kasprzak (Casper-Zack), but you can call me "Ms. K." I have a very very long history with District 25, starting as a Kindergartner at Dryden (that's me in the Mickey and Minnie Mouse shirt on the far right). After six fun-filled years at Dryden, I transformed into a South Cardinal, and then a Rolling Meadows Mustang. I have always loved art, but started studying it seriously in high school. I wanted to share my knowledge and passion for art with others, so I decided being an art teacher was my true calling. I spent four years studying Art Education at Northern Illinois University. Before finishing college and representing the entire Visual and Performing Arts graduating class as a student marshal, I was back in District 25 student teaching at Dryden and Thomas. Since I love District 25 so much, I spent a year substitute teaching in the district, along with teaching summer school, and doing various art projects for Food Services. If you happen to be in the cafeteria at South or Thomas take a look by the serving line, I painted most of those murals! Outside of the district, I also taught art in Chicago Public Schools, and spent last year at Shabonee Elementary School in Northbrook. Being a life-long learner is EXTREMELY important to me, so I went back to school and recently became certified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL/ELL), and work as a Librarians Assistant.
Since I live in the area, you may catch me at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library (my favorite place to go!), or walking my three dogs around downtown Arlington Heights. If there is anything else you would like to know feel free to contact me at [email protected], or stop by the art room if you are in the building. Also check my blog for frequent updates on all the happenings in the art room. It's going to be a great year, I'm glad we get to experience it together! |
